Ypê, a 100% Brazilian company and leader in important categories of the hygiene and cleaning segment in the country, celebrated a partnership with Casa dos Ventos - a protagonist of the energy transition and Brazilian leader in renewable generation -, through a contract worth approximately R$ 250 million in remote renewable energy self-production. The electricity will be supplied by the Rio do Vento Wind Complex, located in Rio Grande do Norte, with 1,038 MW of installed capacity, enough energy to avoid the emission of approximately 2 million tons of CO2 per year into the atmosphere.
The partnership, which will last until 2039, positions Ypê as a shareholder of the project and figures the brand as a remote energy self-producer. In this model, energy generation and consumption occur in different locations, where all energy is sent to the electrical grid to be transported for consumption, from a distribution or transmission structure of the SIN (National Interconnected System). "We are taking an important step towards the self-production of renewable energy, supplying approximately 40% of our electricity consumption. This action helps us advance in this agenda of reducing the impact on the environment and ensuring energy security, in line with our mission to contribute to the construction of a better world", says Gustavo de Souza, Director of Research, Development and Sustainability at Ypê.
The self-production of renewable energy is becoming the most efficient model to enable the energy transition of large companies, as it guarantees, in addition to decarbonization, predictability and cost savings.
This partnership is another step towards reducing CO2 emissions in Brazil, and allows for the development of even more sustainable products for consumers. In addition, it confers Ypê's protagonism in the management of its energy and drives the journey of neutralizing the company's emission activities
