Supply 100% of the electricity demand of 30 offices and 4 data centers with clean energy, without bearing the risks of constructing and operating its own plant
TIVIT, a Brazilian multinational digital solutions company, operated 30 offices and four data centers spread across Brazil, with a significant and geographically distributed electricity demand. The company sought a way to supply 100% of this demand with clean energy, without having to bear the typical risks of constructing and operating its own plant — something historically restricted to large energy-intensive consumers with the capacity to invest in self-generation.
12 MWm of long-term wind energy through the 'energy condominium' model of Rio do Vento, with the option of equity participation in the SPE
Casa dos Ventos, one of the pioneers and largest investors in wind projects in Brazil, signed a long-term renewable energy purchase and sale agreement with TIVIT, ensuring the supply of all the company's electricity demand starting in 2022, through the Rio do Vento Wind Complex, in Rio Grande do Norte.
With an installed capacity of 504 MW and an investment of R$ 2.4 billion, the complex is formed by eight Special Purpose Entities (SPEs), which enables the negotiation of contracts in the free market with companies of different sizes and sectors. In addition to energy supply, TIVIT also gained the option to become a shareholder of the SPE, becoming a self-producer and further reducing its total electricity cost.
It functions like a large condominium, where various companies benefit from the economies of scale of the project as a whole.
Says Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos.
The complex features 120 Vestas V150-4.2 MW turbines, located in the municipalities of Caiçara do Rio do Vento, Riachuelo, Ruy Barbosa, and Bento Fernandes. Commercial operation of the complex began in the second half of 2021.
We brought unprecedented innovation to the Free Contracting Environment (ACL) when we customized the Rio do Vento parks to the different needs of our clients. We innovated by offering a privilege that was previously restricted to large consumers who could invest in their own plants and become self-producers. In our case, the client has the option to become a self-producer, with construction and operation risks mitigated and benefiting from the scale we brought to the complex.
States Lucas Araripe, executive director of Casa dos Ventos.
100% of TIVIT's electricity demand met by wind energy, with competitive tariffs and long-term predictability guaranteed by Rio do Vento
- 100% of TIVIT's electricity demand supplied by wind energy across 30 offices and 4 data centers;
- Another company incorporated into Rio do Vento's "energy condominium" model;
- More competitive tariffs, made possible by the quality of the region's wind resource and the complex's economies of scale.
Rio do Vento is a unique project. The winds blowing in the region are intense and constant, a climatic characteristic that allows us to work with much more competitive contracts and tariffs with our clients. The predictability of tariffs in long-term contracts is also an attractive feature for companies, as it protects them from price volatilities.
Says Lucas Araripe.
