Company
Casa dos Ventos entered the wind energy business in 2006 with the goal of contributing positively to the renewable component of the Brazilian electric energy system.
The company is part of the Albatroz Group, headed by Mário Araripe, a traditional business leader from the state of Ceará with investments in the textile, financial, automobile manufacturing, and civil construction sectors.
In addition to Casa dos Ventos, the Albatroz Group has holdings in a diverse array of companies, including Têxtil União, Marisol and Companhia Valença Industrial, the latter being Brazil’s oldest factory. The Group also has holdings in Harmony Empreendimentos Imobiliários, a well known name in civil construction in Brazil’s northeast, the Salus investment fund, and, until 2006, in Troller Veículos Especiais, a major Brazilian automobile manufacturer.
Since its inception, Casa dos Ventos has been focused on using high-quality mapping tools as a way to identify Brazil’s most promising wind energy sites. Casa dos Ventos’ legal, environmental, financial and engineering staff carries out project development, and subsequently the company is active in the construction and operation of the projects.
Casa dos Ventos currently has projects in various phases of development and construction in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Bahia, and Minas Gerais, constituting Brazil’s largest wind energy project portfolio. Projects developed by Casa dos Ventos have been selected in each of the country’s recent renewable energy auctions, and these projects currently total 1.660 MW under construction. These projects will soon be producing renewable energy for approximately 3 million homes, avoiding annual emissions at around 3,500,000 tons of CO2 into the Earth’s atmosphere.
Beyond having developed 56 wind projects which are now under construction, Casa dos Ventos can also lay claim to having the country’s most extensive wind energy measurement network, with the greatest number of meteorological towers installed, which gives the company a significant advantage in having a massive portfolio of projects in various stages of development. This distinction makes Casa dos Ventos a leader in the Brazilian wind energy market.
