Casa dos Ventos is focused on the development of utility scale wind energy projects in regions of Brazil’s northeast and southeast. Throughout the development process, Casa dos Ventos prioritizes the creation of benefits for partners and local communities.
Casa dos Ventos currently has projects in various phases of development and construction in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Bahia, and Minas Gerais, constituting Brazil’s largest wind energy project portfolio.
The company’s most mature projects are located in the region of João Câmara-RN, where the project portfolio exceeds 2,500 MW. Among the company’s projects developed in João Câmara, 330 MW were victorious in the 2009 renewable energy auction (“Leilão de Energia de Reserva de 2009”), 150 MW in the first renewable energy auction in 2010 (“Leilão de Energia de Reserva de 2010”) and 570 MW in the second (“Leilão A-3 de Fontes Alternativas de 2010”). The company was also the only successful winner in 2010 with projects in the State of Ceará, with a total installed capacity of 150 MW of winning projects located in the region of the Ibiapaba Mountains. In the Reserve Energy auction held in 2011, the company obtained 120MW of projects developed victorious in the Ibiapaba Mountains and others 75MW in the area of João Câmara. There were also 150 MW developed by Casa dos Ventos that were victorious in the 2011 A-5 Energy Auction, being the only winning projects in the state of Bahia at that auction. In that same year, Casa dos Ventos also had 270 MW of developed projects signing PPA in the Brazilian Free Energy Market. These projects will soon be producing renewable energy for approximately 3 million homes, avoiding annual emissions at around 3,500,000 tons of CO2 into the Earth’s atmosphere.
Casa dos Ventos can also lay claim to having the country’s most extensive wind energy measurement network, with the greatest number of meteorological towers and anemometers installed, which gives the company a significant advantage in having a massive portfolio of projects in various stages of development. Furthermore, Casa dos Ventos’ project wind energy data has survived the scrutiny of the principal national and international certifying organizations, and engineering design is verified by a multidisciplinary team with international experience.
Casa dos Ventos’s projects typically possess the following characteristics:
• Economies of scale – project complexes (groups of projects) always above 500 MW
• High capacity factors – resulting from the detailed studies carried out during project area identification and resource measurement
• Ease of development and licensing – avoiding coastal areas as well as those subject to multiple use claims
• Road and transmission infrastructure access
• Good landowner ownership documentation
• Solid relationships with project partners throughout the development process – from conception to engineering, to construction and operation
